My Approach to Massage

My approach to massage is integrative and intuitive.  I blend techniques, such as these listed below, to create a unique mix to meet the needs of my clients;

  • deep or gentle touch
  • neuromuscular techniques
  • muscle energy techniques
  • joint mobilisation
  • stretching
  • myofascial release
  • breathwork
  • energy balancing

However, my approach doesn't just rely on having frameworks and techniques to draw upon, it is not rigid, but flows and unfolds, drawing on the softer skills of massage such as intuition and trust.  The beauty of this approach means that I can meet you exactly where you are and we can create a session that addresses and meets the needs you have at that time, rather than expecting your unique body and unique needs to be comfortable in an inflexible “one size fits all” approach.

Encompassing the mind, body, spirit and emotions

Using a well developed sense of touch to unravel your bodies muscular history,   I am not only easing and releasing muscle tissues, but am also connecting your mind, spirit and emotions, allowing their part in the causes of the tension to be included and if necessary explored.
All these levels are inter-related – we cannot work with one without affecting all the others.  You can choose to engage and ‘work’ with the process or surrender to the deep relaxation and breathing space a massage session provides.  Either way this will enable the body to unwind, realign and re balance.

Using this mind-body approach means that you can expect:

  • restoration and balancing of your energy
  • support through illness and recuperation
  • to manage stress, anxiety and depression more effectively
  • a deepening of physical and emotional awareness
  • a greater understanding of the mind/body connection

Myofascial Release and Focusing

Sensitive, skilled touch will, by its very nature, foster an environment of trust and encourage the body to let go of physical and emotional tensions held within the muscle tissue.
In order to deepen and support this process I have been developing a way of working which blends the slow, focused massage techniques of myofascial release with the emotionally therapeutic techniques of Focusing.  Focusing is body centred and helps my clients to hold an open, non-judging attention to a physical feeling and to acknowledge, be with and work through that feeling.  Working with a hands-on approach whilst also engaging with the focusing process can lead to useful insights and emotional and physical releases.
